I’ve Been Recycling All Wrong 🤦🏾♀️
Hubby and I have been recycling for a few years now. I actually felt really good that we were doing our part in sustaining the Earth.
Now, let’s rewind to a few years ago when I was in the classroom. April 22nd is Earth Day. A day to support environmental protection. One school year, I noticed our classrooms were wasting an insane amount of paper. There were no recycle bins and I felt bad putting all the paper in the trash can. When I learned about Earth day, coupled with my desire to stop wasting paper, I created an initiative with my students to start recycking around the campus. We started in our classroom, extended to our grade-level peers, and also included the entire school by placing homemade recycle boxes in the cafeteria. Its important to note that this was a relatively small campus. We did this for the entire month of April and on Earth Day, we made a big deal about depositing all our collections in the large recycle bin. We had learned about recycle codes located on the bottom of plastics and ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle! It was such fun! ♻️
Now fast forward back to today...I was very gung-ho about implementing recycling into our family’s lifestyle. We do it faithfully. One trash bin is for trash, and the other, recyclables. Since Earth Day is coming up and I haven’t done anything for years in support of, I thought it would be a great idea to do something again with Best Start. As I begin to plan an awesome family event/activity, I had to do some research.
And what I learned is that I have been recycling the WRONG way this whole time!!!!!😩😩😩.
So, I invite you all to join me on this journey to saving earth the right way through our Annual Earth Day Extravagana! I have very high hopes for where this new initiative will go, but for now we will start small and together.
